2017 North Carolina Severe Weather Preparedness Week is March 5-11, 2017
Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 9:30 AM
During the week of March 5-11, Severe Weather Preparedness Week will occur in North Carolina. As a part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, a statewide tornado drill will occur on Wednesday, March 8 at 9:30 AM
The intent of Severe Weather Preparedness Week is to highlight the severe weather threats in North Carolina and take the time to focus on how best to prepare your family for severe weather events.
During Severe Weather Preparedness Week, North Carolina Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and Guilford County Emergency Management will partner to pass along information in regards to severe weather statistics, weather terms, and preparedness for North Carolina.
This week will be a great time to enact an emergency plan for your family or review any plans you have in place. It is also a good time to think about building an emergency kit with essential items to sustain your family in the event utilities are lost or if you must shelter in place.
Another important part of preparing for severe weather is awareness of the weather forecast. Guilford County has partnered with the City of Greensboro and the City of High Point to enhance the capability of the GEANI system with new software support that can reach exponentially more phone numbers and emails at the same time than the old system, resulting in quicker delivery of public safety information. Another exciting improvement is that citizens who elect to do so can receive customizable weather information via email, text and phone calls.
